‘The House on Weirdfield Street,’ by Matt Bollinger, 2015

Matt Bollinger, The House on Weirdfield Street, 2015. Hand-drawn, stop motion animation, 11 min. 12 sec. Courtesy the artist and Zürcher Gallery, NY/Paris.

Semi-autobiographical in essence, Matt Bollinger’s 2015 animation The House on Weirdfield Street conveys the artist’s banal but pointed personal experiences from his former home on ‘Weirfield Street’ in Brooklyn. For Bollinger, the urban landscape is synonymous with the subconscious, and in this video stop-motion animation stands in for stream-of-consciousness, showing Bollinger in the act of constructing, reconsidering, and reforming his memories through drawing.
