Savinder Bual’s 2009 looped video Myriorama takes its name from the moving panoramas that became popular attractions in nineteenth-century Europe. Like the historical moving panorama, Bual’s hand-crank mechanism presents an unwinding scroll that gives viewers an impression of moving through the landscape. Rather than create a realistic rendering of the mountains and river,  Bual’s loose drawings point to the contrived nature of the illusions constructed by early-cinematic devices.
