Diana Shpungin, Disappearing Act, 2012

Up now on our online gallery is Disappearing Act, 2012 by Diana Shpungin, a Brooklyn-based multi-disciplinary artist born in the seaside town of Riga, Latvia. Disappearing Act animates individual graphite pencil drawings depicting a scene at the beach derived from family photographs and the artist’s fractured memories. Utilizing a non-narrative structure, the work fluctuates between realism and abstraction with the picture plane itself a symbolic window for the ambiguity of memory.
