In conjunction with The Drawing Center’s upcoming exhibition Small., this week’s online gallery feature is David, 2012, by Rita Ponce de Léon (b. 1982; Lima, Peru). Inspired by the Mexican social realist painter David Alfaro Siqueiros, this video uses expressive, gestural line-making to explore the celebrated muralist’s ideology that “drawing must permanently adhere to architecture.”
The exhibition, Small., opens July 11th and is on view through August 24th.
This video was also part of the recent Peru rotation of the on-going exhibition Sights and Sounds: Global Film and Video at The Jewish Museum.
